In confirming the suspicions of Environmentalist Simone Mangal-Joly, the Executive Director of EPA, Mr. Kemraj Parsram explained that while an EIA was not required, an Environmental Management Plan was submitted to the regulator. According to Parsram, \u201cSubsequent to the Environmental Audit conducted in 2019, an Environmental Assessment was conducted to update the EMP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>O&amp;G, investment agreements signed:<\/strong>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/guyanachronicle.com\/2021\/12\/08\/og-investment-agreements-signed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guyana Chronicle<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2014 as Ghana\u2019s high-level delegation wraps up visit to Guyana<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GUYANA and Ghana, on Tuesday, officially signed bilateral agreements that will pave the way for the further strengthening of co-operation between the two nations, and guide relations between sister agencies in the areas of oil and gas and investment. At the moment, Parsram shared that detailed records on flaring are provided to the agency by ExxonMobil\u2019s subsidiary and operator of the Stabroek Block, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>There is a major structural error in Natural Resource Fund Act:&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stabroeknews.com\/2021\/12\/08\/opinion\/letters\/there-is-a-major-structural-error-in-natural-resource-fund-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Stabroek News<\/a>&nbsp;<strong>(Letter to the Editor) by David Pollard, Pollards Et Filles (Guyana) Inc.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Stabroek News\u2019 recent editorial entitled `The China Loan\u2019 suggested that Guyana\u2019s Natural Resource Fund Act (establishing our sovereign wealth fund) required only \u201c\u2026 some minor tweaks \u2026\u201d before it could safely become fully operational. I disagree. In fact, I strongly disagree. The NRF Act is deeply flawed in ways that are already having a significant impact on Guyana\u2019s development and its response to the COVID pandemic. None of Guyana\u2019s US$198M in oil earnings during 2020 was available to; support frontline health workers, buy vaccines, support affected businesses &amp; unemployed workers, provide internet for online schooling etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Technology being secured to test Exxon\u2019s produced water \u2013 EPA Head:&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/oilnow.gy\/featured\/technology-being-secured-to-test-exxons-produced-water-epa-head\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OilNOW<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Kemraj Parsram recently disclosed that his team is working on securing technology that would boost the capacity of the agency to test produced water. In the meantime, Parsram said ExxonMobil\u2019s affiliate, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL), is doing self-monitoring on a daily basis on the Liza Destiny FPSO and reports on that process are sent to the EPA for review.
