Harmon, Norton hold talks on Opposition Leader post:<\/strong> Demerara Waves<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon and Leader of the People\u2019s National Congress Reform, Aubrey Norton held talks on Monday on the decision by that party that Mr. Norton should take over that constitutional post. Mr. Norton could not be reached for comment as calls to his phones went unanswered, and Mr. Harmon declined to speak about the meeting. Sources close to the talks say that the two politicians had a \u201cgood meeting\u201d and nothing so far has changed. The PNCR\u2019s Central Executive Committee has decided that Mr. Norton should enter the National Assembly and become Opposition Leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sudden resignation of Simona Broomes from the PNCR party because of what she claims to be, the absence of \u201csystems, and consultation\u201d within the party, comes at a testing time for the new PNCR leadership. This resignation would not help to alleviate the power struggle within the PNCR for control of the party\u2019s apparatus. Mr. Aubrey Norton was elected the new leader of the PNCR to replace former President, Mr. David Granger, and he wants to replace Mr. Joseph Harmon as the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patterson\u2019s gas-to-shore motion now on Parliament\u2019s Notice Paper<\/strong>:<\/strong> Stabroek News<\/a>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A motion on the proposed gas-to-shore project in the name of APNU+AFC MP David Patterson has now been placed on the parliamentary notice paper. This was disclosed in a letter sent yesterday by Clerk of the National Assembly, Sherlock Isaacs to Patterson. The correspondence came after Patterson had written a January 8, 2022 letter to Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir complaining that the gas-to-shore motion submitted to Parliament on October 27, 2021 was still to be addressed 74 days on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Article 13, the new civil society group which sets out to achieve the noble goals and aspirations set out in the constitution of Guyana, is once again calling on President Irfaan Ali to use his immense powers to see that the organs of the Constitution are established in the shortest possible time. In this regard, the group is lobbying the government to ensure that steps are taken for the Local Government Elections (LGE) to be held in the shortest possible time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
