Braskem-Idesa and Advario’s new Terminal Químico Puerto Mexico (TQPM) 50:50 joint venture will own and operate the ethane import site. The terminal’s 80,000 b/d capacity will allow Braskem-Idesa to import all its raw material needs, Braskem said.
Braskem added recently that the terminal’s engineering studies were advancing well, and construction is expected to start in the second half of 2022.
The company secured late last year all corporate approvals from shareholders and creditors to move forward with ethane supply and terminal construction contracts from Mexico’s state-owned Pemex.
The two contracts establish both a 30,000 b/d supply contract for the feedstock and Pemex’s support for the construction of the ethane import terminal. The ethane will feed Braskem’s 1mn t/yr ethylene plant in Coatzacoalcos.
Today’s agreement is subject to applicable approvals. Once approved, Braskem-Idesa and Advario will each hold 50pc of TQPM’s share capital.
Based in Amsterdam, Advario specializes in designing, building and operating storage and logistics infrastructure for liquid bulk products, including petrochemicals and cryogenic gases, and operates worldwide.
Braskem, a leading petrochemical company in the Americas, is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
