Brazil reinjected and produced a record amount of natural gas in October, according to preliminary data from oil and gas regulator ANP.
Reinjection — when gas is pumped back into wells to enhance oil recovery or to avoid flaring and the release of CO2 — amounted to an all-time high of 76.4mn m³/d last month, an 11pc increase from September and a 33pc increase from a year earlier.
Total gas production also hit a record in October, rising to 148.7mn m³/d. Output was up by 4pc from the previous record 143.1mn m³/d in September and 13pc higher than in October 2021.
Gas consumption on platforms rose to 15.1mn m³/d, up by 0.7pc from the previous month and by 17pc from the same period in 2021.
Gas flaring fell to 2.9mn m³/d, an 8pc drop from the previous month and a 33pc slump from the same month last year.
Gas available to the market was 54.9mn m³/d, 3.2pc less than in September and 4pc down from October 2021.
