The fire at waste lagoon of Venezuela PDVSA’s CRP refinery Cardon unit, in Falcón state Monday night and continued to burn Tuesday was finally controlled by Firefighters from PDVSA that were able to gain control late Tuesday. The fire had started around a flare at Venezuela in the PDVSA’s refinery Monday night, according to Argus Media journalist Carlos Camacho.
Flames were confined in a waste lagoon area and no injuries were reported
This was confirmed the same night through the social media accounts of Vice Minister for Risk Management and Civil Protection Carlos Pérez Ampueda, reported by The Orinoco Tribune.
Pérez Ampueda indicated that the National Risk Management System carried out fire extinguishing maneuvers in the waste lagoon.
Cardon’s unit with a name plate of 305,000 b/d is part of Venezuela’s largest 960.000 b/d CRP refinery and was running around 60,000 b/d near the time of the incident, according to analysts.
A PDVSA refining worker told Argus the fire will make a recent surge in gasoline shortages worse, reported Camacho.
